Membrane Filtration of Soft Colloids

INTRODUCTION
Separation of deformable particles from liquid is frequently necessary in biomass processing and chemical/biological waste treatment. Microfiltration is an essential mode of filtration for recovering valuable chemical and biological materials from manufacturing processes.

MATERIAL
The deformation of particles during a filtration separation process complicates the processing of a variety of materials, including gels, blood cells, bacteria, microorganisms, and chemical/biological waste products.

Polysaccharides(多糖體)
Saccharomyces cerevisiae(釀酒酵母菌)
Dextran(葡聚糖)
Dextran-MnO2 with 70000, 500000, 2000000 Da
bovine serum albumin (BSA) (牛血清蛋白)
BSA/Dextran binary protein mixtures
Yeast
tofu (soybean curd) and okara (soybean curd refuse)
manure(肥料)
Ca-alginate gel particle(藻酸鈣微球)
superabsorbent hydrogel particle (水凝膠微球)
activated sludge
core-shell particles with hard poly(styrene) cores and water-swollen poly(acrylic acid) shells
titanium dioxide particles (anatase鈦白粉)
oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion
oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion and polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA) slurry
dilute bentonite suspension (火山灰石膠狀黏土)

APPARATUS
Ultrafiltration
upward and downward ultrafiltraion
Dead-end microfiltration
upward and downward microfiltration
Compression-Permeability (C-P) cell
Crossflow microfiltration
